Hey guys,
I just returned from Penitas where the RGV Flyers' hosted their Art Brock Memorial Fun Fly. Incidentally, the weather man completely missed the forecast. In fact, it was a great flying day which turned out to be only second to the food prepared by Roger Bell and his crew.
Today, I discovered the answer to something that has eluded me for the past 30 years. It was in 1981 that I was in Fredericksburg TX. We had stopped at a little country restaurant and my friend said that I needed to try their sausage plate. The taste of that sausage remained as only a haunting memory until today.
Roger Bell had prepared some sausages. When I bit into one, it was the taste I remembered. I asked him what it was and he said it was "Bratwurst." I never knew what I was eating 30 years ago, but I am now hooked.
This afternoon we did a lot of flying, and I was glad to reunite with Joseph Kouzez. I first met him when he was only 12 years old. Later, I met him at the McAllen airport when the two of us were commuting to our airline jobs. I was like a proud father when I discovered that he was now an airline pilot because I tried to mentor to him.
Today, I discovered that the R/C trainer from 1997 was long gone, and he was now flying a turbine powered jet. As I said before, it was a day of great food, flying, and R/C companionship. Thanks to Bob Barry and all who worked to make this a great day. On a personal note, and if this email is shared with the RGV leadership, try and shoot for your next event on a Saturday because I can get their much earlier than I did today.
