1st Annual Tejas RC October Airshow

I want to say a BIG, "Thank You !!" to all that came & participated in the Tejas RC Association's 1st Annual October RC Airshow at their new flying site, Art Brock Field, located in the city of San Juan. Several San Juan city council members were present and from latest reports they were very much impressed with the airshow and most certainly, the 'miracles' that have been accomplished with the old San Juan landfill site, it wasn't too long ago that the 80 + acre site was a very rough & ugly, overgrown hodge-podge of trees & underbrush. I think all will agree the site now has the complexion and semblance of a grassy covered & well manicured city park or country club.

Several airshow participants drove in from the Laredo RC Club and provided exciting & enjoyable aerial antics & demos. Several participants came from other Valley model clubs with one modeler ( Phil Geery ) driving in from Waxahatchie, up near Ft. Worth to participate. All present enjoyed themselves and helped the TRCA put on a highly entertaining venue for all.

A noon time line up of RC planes was provided both days for visitors to get a close up look at the aircraft and talk to the pilots. As an added bonus, a control line ( CL ) model plane aerobatic demonstration was performed to the amazement of those present, many asked how does one perform all those amazing aerial tricks with only one control ?? ( It's a big secret...maybe ) Exposure of such activities & events in the community improves the quality of life and offers many opportunities for youth to participate in a wholesome, highly interesting sport with responsible adult leadership, thanx again goes to those that have been doing this.

TRCA club president, Xavier Pruneda, worked tirelessly to make sure everyone was comfortable & sincerely welcome. Bert Hahn provided the Event Director duties and did an excellent job with help provided from other Valley organizations & volunteers in attendance. AMA awards were presented to Xavier Pruneda, Rick Michelena, & Cliff Colyer for the expidenture of their personal time, funds, and tireless devotion to duty to make sure the San Juan flying site is always mowed, in good repair and a beautiful place to come relax & fly model planes. Good food & soft drinks were also provided and helped everyone enjoy a great AMA & community event.

Those that missed the airshow missed a most remarkable & wonderful time, I am ready to participate in next year's event.

Woo hoo !! You Guys put on a great Airshow!! I Myself had a great time..( im usually working) We felt comfortable..

like we were at our own field .. Jim, javi, cliff, rick, bert .. EVERYONE at your club was great to us..And we appreciate the hospitality! ......... We enjoyed ourselves and We Flew pretty good too!(Must have been the great food!!!) It is very important to us big guys... Im still waiting for my 3x tejas shirt

..Javi . It was a great event in san juan and We are hoping the tejas gang will visit us at our next airshow... We are learning from the best (you guys!) and our next airshow should be great!
