Flying at the Tejas Airfield « Result #1 on Dec 21, 2009, 12:21pm »
For those of you who are not flying in this perfect weather, shame on you. You are missing out on the best flying conditions of the year. Ultra low wind and 65 to 70 degree temperatures, it can't get any better. We had a fair group yesterday, at one time we had 5 airplanes in the air at once. Some of us have forgotten how it feels to have that many planes flying at one time. Thank God for spectrum.
Something to be said for fomies, had one crash yesterday. It broke the fuselage behind the wing and broke the motor mount off. A little CA and 15 minutes latter it was back in the air. Li-PO batteries do go bad.
Also, Kurt is really getting brave putting his new biggie up with all those hotrod jobs and a trainee to boot. I think he got a little concerned but he hung in there, his nerves must be getting better.
Rick had an engine problem but the day was so perfect he was bound and determined he was going to fly. He took his engine apart, found a bad gasket, made a new one and tore up the sky with his Spitfire.
Weslaco 2010 Air Show « Result #2 on Dec 21, 2009, 11:22am »
The Tejas 2010 air show will be held on January 29th, 30th, and 31st at the Weslaco Airport in Weslaco Texas. We will be flying on the main runway which is 5,280 ft. This is an AMA event open to all types of RC aircraft, from turbine to electric. If it flies and you are an AMA member, come and join us. The Smash Club out of Harlingen, Texas will hold their annual swap meet at the air show. If you have something you want to sell or swap, bring it. There will be all kinds of goodies.
Those of you who have RVs, contact one of the Tejas RC Associations members about parking. If you want to come early, you can park at our normal flying field in San Juan, Texas. We have water and a Port-a-potty. You can park on the Weslaco airport property after 1 PM on Thursday, January 28th. All RVs must vacate the Weslaco airport by noon Monday, February 1st. Our field is only 5 or 6 miles from the airport. If you would like to stay another day or two you may return back to our airfield.
At the air show we will have concessions. The airport will be closed to full scale aircraft from 8 AM to 11.30 Am and 1PM to 4:30 PM each day. We will have a static show for the spectators each day at noon.

The RC Taildragger Blues « Result #3 on Nov 18, 2009, 10:23pm »
All you RC airplanes that are tail draggers, how I hate your guts. I have the AMA license, type ratings and such, But to make you go straight is driving me absolutely nuts. With hours of teaching and controls in my clutch It takes just a little rudder....it's really easy, Oops, that's way too much !!!
Ya see, what happened was I learned to fly on tricycle gear Yunno, with one up front and two in the rear. She was trim, sleek & clean and so easy to steer, But this miserable d**n thing with two tires and mangle of struts It just takes a little rudder.....it's really easy, Oops, that's way too much !!!
It demands your constant attention on the takeoff roll, Or it heads towards for the boonies when you pour on the coals. Ya gotta hang loose and don't over control....
That wicked little plane is just way too much With a lot of zigging & zagging and a lot of words obscene... But I think I've finally mastered this slippery little machine. It's not too bad at all if you have just the right touch -- It just takes a little rudder....it's really easy, Oops, that's way too much !!!
I relax for a split second and from the corner of my eye What do I see and suddenly realize, with a gasp and a cry... Hey, is that my tail going by ?!!!! You ground looping flying little wreck, how I hate your guts, So, I'll just give it a little bit of rudder.... Oh Good Gawd, THAT'S WAY-Y TOO MUCH !

Thanking You Ahead of Time For Your Support « Result #4 on Nov 14, 2009, 7:51am »
Attention !!! Fellow Tejas RC members....
It is sincerely hoped that many of you will be able to drive the short distance down to Harlingen on the 14th ( this Saturday ) to the Harlingen SMASH RC's Rio Hondo flying site to participate in their Flight Fiesta, it should be loads of fun. Knowing that some within the Harlingen bunch are reluctant or hesitant to travel the few short miles up the road to San Juan to support Tejas RC activities, we Tejicians should not use that as an excuse to restrict our support & participation in other Valley model RC club activities.
The ongoing minor squabble or misunderstanding of one model organization's membership with the Tejas RC should not be used as a deterrent or an excuse to forfiet our participation at other Valley RC club's activities and fellowship. As for myself I plan to visit and participate in all kinds of model activities wherever they are located in south Texas or elsewhere.
There are several within the Tejas RC that go the 'extra mile' to participate in other District VIII model club's activities and proudly wear their bold 'Blood Yella' Tejas RC shirts, I want to say a big THANK YOU !! Others see our bold yellow shirts and learn very soon who is 'stuffed' inside and that we are not such a bad lot. Some will remember us due to our cohesive spirit and come participate in future Tejas RC Association events & venues....Only good can come from this...
Thanx Again to the membership... Jim Marshall ( Tejician 1 ) AMA District VIII Assoc. Vice Pres. Staunch Tejas RC member

Tejas RC Safety Officer, ZAPPED !! « Result #8 on Nov 8, 2009, 8:11pm »
Way-y-y Down Below... is an email written to a certain Doctor Lopez from one, Capn' Rick "Mad Dawg" Michelena, the Tejas RC Association's esteemed, ultra hard nosed Safety Officer......It seems Rick has gone & done it to himself ( again )...OUCH !! FYI, Rick has screwed up his lower back and seriously assaulted himself in one ear with a cotton swab ( take that,..THAT... and that... you "Mad Dawg" !! ) In reality, the whole situation isn't at all funny and we shouldn't take advantage of the situation to really rub it in...as Rick is in much pain to his lower back and now ( even more painfully )...in his ear.....But that may be a Blessing in disguise... as his wife Carla said he doesn't listen to anything she says anyway....( ummm, that's strange, my wife says the same thing about me also... )
Rick may soon be wearing and/or carrying around old timey ear-trumpets and using a fancy walking cane ....which ultimately means we all shall soon be speaking in much louder tones or yelling like crazy in his good ear just to say HELLO !! ...Of course, this means he may soon qualify to park in the cripple unloading zone at the field .....So, if any of you have any dire safety complaints or other sordid comments that need to be aired.... you are now considered WARNED !! ....We all may be required to repeat ourselves more than twice to get Rick to hear or pay any attention. ...And NO !!...this does not give you permission to talk disparagingly about him behind his back in a loud and vociferous manner....
Jymbeaux
Here's Rick's Letter to Doctor Lopez ---
Dr. Lopez,
I did not have a very good weekend. I elected to lift a 60 lb. object and when I turned to load it a very sharp pain was felt in my lower back. Two painful hours pass and I am now bedridden. When I attempted to get out of bed to go wash, the pain in my back caused me to flinch while using a Q-tip to swab my ear and now, I may have burst or punctured an eardrum. There is a bit of blood coming out and it is very painful. Please call me at home. 631-3885....Thanks!
